Culdesac Canyon Passing Lane Phase 2
Owner: Idaho Transportation Department
Location: Culdesac, ID
Completion: Fall 2020
The Culdesac Canyon project consisted of adding a southbound passing lane and replacing nine culverts with three-sided box culverts on US-95, MP 279.7 to MP 282.2. The steep canyon walls made pioneering the cut slops particularly challenging but M.A. DeAtley Construction’s crews were up to the challenge. The project included approximately 200,000 CY of various rock excavation, 65,000 Tons of 3/4″ aggregate base & 37,000 SF of Mechanically Stabilized Earth Retaining Walls. The other major component of the project was installing the nine 11′ x 20′ concrete box culvert bridges. Each of box culverts were up to 177 feet long and were installed while maintaining traffic passage.
